Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has commenced preparations for the conduct of Local Government elections.
This could not be farfetched as the governor in less than 2 months in office is said to have set modalities suspected to be connected with Council elections.
Recall that the last election held in the State was during the last moments of Rochas Okorocha in 2019 as a governor after 8 years of reign, even though there were mixed reactions that trailed the said LG polls.
After Okorocha was Emeka Ihedioha who only made plans of conducting council elections, until he was removed through the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the case might be different with Hope Uzodinma, who has sent list of Chairman and members of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, to the State House of Assembly.
Trumpeta Newspaper gathered that at the Assembly plenary of Tuesday, the speaker read out the nominees for screening.
According to the list, Chairman of the commission is Mrs. Pauline Onyeka.
Members include; Henry Adimelechi, Fisher Ezeukwu, Jacinta Uchechukwu, and John Ohiri.
In effect to this, the Speaker set up ad-hoc committee for the screening to be chaired by Hon Arthur Egwim. Other committee members are; Hon Emeka Nduka, Okey Onyekanma, and Uju Onwudiwe, and are to report back to the House today.
Feelers has it that the announcement of the commission members have reinvigorated hope in the minds of aspirants jostling either for the chairmanship or councillorship positions across the State, since the former plans didn’t work out.
