The Imo state cycling Association has disclosed their resolve to do Imo proud in the for coming National Sports Festival tagged ‘EKO 12 games’
Speaking to ‘Imo Trumpeta’ in an exclusive chart, the Imo club cycling manager, Mr. Chinedu Onuoha (aka Mpompo) explained that after the achievement of the contingent that participated at the Garden city Games 2011 and with the amount of work the cyclists has been putting into their training schedule, nothing short of the gold medal is expected from them.
It should be noted here that in recent times the cyclists have measured pretty well in almost all the events they have participated in.
We won 2 bronze medals in Garden city festival 2011in Port Harcourt; we have also won 3rd position in Lubric cycling championship also in
Port Harcourt 2012.
‘In the past, the state contingent got a bronze at the Gateway Festival Games 2006 in Abeokuta another bronze at the FCT festival games 2005 in Abuja. That’s why we have resolved within our selves to take it to the next level by trying to win the Gold and Silver at the Eko‘12 games in Lagos come November this year, said Mpompo.
Meanwhile, the cycling club Manager, Mpompo also took time to appreciate the Executive Governor of Imo State, chief Rochas Okorocha who he understand has a listening ear for all their needs to make this years festival a success.
He also thanked the Acting Director of sport Mrs. Chizotan Agbomma Aretola who has been working tirelessly to make the sports council a success and the state commissioner for Youths and Sports Mr. Kenneth Emelu who has been fighting for Youths development in the State.
He however used this medium to appeal to the authorities and private organizations to help them in their pet program were they incorporate cycling into charity by organizing a monthly charity ride to help the less privileged in the society as well as help to expand to training tour of all the 27 of local government areas in Imo state they by helping to discover and develop more young cyclists from the rural areas.
The listed cyclists for the National Sports Festival tagged Eko 12 games in Lagos this November are Female; Ifunanya Nwayanwu, Gift Osuji, Ugochi Alugbuo and Chinelo Nwogu.
The male are; Sam power Felix, Chigozie Mmadu, Udochukwu Chike, and Victor Okoroji, Ibe Emmanuel, Uzoma Ononikpo and Ikokwu Ikechukwu.
The team is coached by Mr. Raymond Okoronkwo while Emmanuel Edeh is the team captain
