Bank Robbers on rampage in Imo; As Cahtolic Priest Kidnapped in Njaba

If not for the intervention of the men of the Imo State Police command, the Diamond Bank and Fin Bank Orlu and the First Bank Amaraku would have been counting their loses now following armed robbery attack on the bank, by armed criminals on Wednesday October 3, 2012.

Imo Trumpeta investigation has it that the robbery gang who appeared to have acted on information had forced themselves at the Orlu branches of Diamond Bank and Fin Bank shooting sporadically to scare innocent customers of the banks.

According to the report, sensing the likely and immediate arrival of the men of the police force who were ever handy at all the nooks and crannies of the state, the gang numbering over seven quickly left the banks for safety.

Not done with their unsuccessful operation in Orlu, the gang headed to First Bank at Amaraku where unfortunately for them the men of the police trailed them too before they could unleash any harm.

Although report has it that the gang forced themselves into the banking hall when it was alleged that they quickly made away with some cash at the counter as their effort to brake into the strong room of the bank was resisted.

When contacted on the incident, the Imo state Police Public Relations Officer Mr. Vitalis Onugu confirmed the two incidents at Orlu and Amaraku.

Although he said that the state police command is yet to get any official report from the three banks involved, but that the police have swung into action to unravel the mystery surrounding the broad day bank robbery attempt.

Mr. Onugu also confirmed that there was not any recorded loss of life from the record available to his office as at the time of this report or any arrest of any suspect.

Meanwhile, a Catholic priest, Rev Fr Hycinth Nnabuife was yesterday kidnapped in Njaba LGA. Trumpeta was told that the priest who serves at St Philips Catholic Church, Atta, in Njaba LGA was on his way to Amucha for a burial. While on the Amucha road, three young men in a motorcycle crossed him and quickly brought out guns to halt the vehicle. Thereafter he was abducted and taken to unknown destination.
