IMO LAWMAKERS NEED ENGLISH TEACHERS

The type of grammer or English spoken on the floor of the House by members of the Imo State House of Assembly calls for concern. Even as many of them can be pardoned for grammatical errors and misuse of English language, some in a deliberate attempt to impress it on the public that they have oratorical power make grievous mistakes. POPULAR SIDE has been overlooking some of these errors but could not help but observe that one of the lawmakers, a female Hon Eudora Igwe, representing Ideato North made a mince meat of the queens language when she stood up to make contributions after motion on adjournment. The female lawmaker said to be a graduate in a revered profession stood up and said, “Mr Speaker, permit me to commiserate with His Excellency, the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha on his 52nd birthday celebration…..” The House went dead with shame.

Instead of saying congratulate, she said commiserate, and instead of 50th birthday, she said 52nd.

English classes should start for lawmakers before the vomit another bomb again.
