Over reliance on importation of food and agricultural products has been portrayed as the bane of poor participation of Nigeria in agriculture.
The traditional ruler of Ofeahia autonomous Community in Onuimo LGA of Imo State, HRH Eze Uche Made disclosed this at the Community’s Annual New Yam Festival held in his palace.
Eze madu who expressed concern over the alarming rate of youth unemployment and amount of resources being expended by families on staple food, warned of the imminent danger if the trend is not checked.
He further pointed out that lager percentage of staple food consumed by the Igbos come from outside Igbo Land and challenged the people to embrace agriculture to ensure food security and income creation.
The traditional ruler however commended the initiative of the Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha in establishing Community Government Councils (CGC) which he said would unlock the agricultural potentials of the rural communities and create jobs for the teeming Imo Youths.
