A former Imo Transport Company driver, a 42yrs old Mr. Agwu Okorie has been remanded by a family High Court sitting in Owerri, for allegedly deceiving, defiling and impregnating a 13yrs old minor.
The Suspect, confessed that he had on two different occasions lured the 13 year old with one hundred naira into his vehicle, where he drove her to secluded areas, including area of Akachi Tower, Owerri-Aba Road to molest her. This however continued after the first attempt, resulting to a six month pregnancy.
The suspect, a father of five children, who hail from Arochukwu, Abia State, until his arrest and confinement in Owerri-Federal Prisons, was separated from his wife over a yet to be known issue.
The 13yrs old pregnant victim, (name witheld) had told the police that the suspect, Agwu made her offer of One Hundred Naira and promised to buy her a cell-phone, if she becomes his friend.
This she said started in 2017, when she was in Jss1 and continued every other day whenever she was returning from school.
According to her, she declined his offer initially, but he day she accepted, was the day he drove her into a bush, tore her cloths and raped her, and she went home bleeding.
The incident did not stop, as Mr. Agwu continually lured and sexually assaulted her.
This action was said to have irked some civil society groups whose swung into action to ensure that justice prevailed.
Women Focused Group, Virgin Heart Foundation and Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Imo State Chapter, through the vice Chairman, Dorothy Okafor, were alerted on this case, swing into action, pledged psycho-social support, medical assistance, advocate for safe home for the victim until her delivery.
The Convener of Virgin Heart Foundation, Peace Dike charged the security agencies and the judiciary to be more proactive in the fight against sexual violence on the women and girls.
