The Awo- Omamma Great Achievers ,AGA annual essay writing and quiz context organized for senior and junior secondary schools in Awo-Omamma Communities commenced on a high note on Friday ,as 16-year old Okoro Favour of St Patrick Secondary school was declared winner of the competition.
The sponsor of the event, Awo- Omamma Great Achievers ,a group comprised of male graduates and undergraduates of Awo-Omamma origins rewarded the the top prize winners for senior secondary sections essay writing competition with huge cash gift ,a year scholarship and other gift items.
Those who emerged first and second runners-up for junior secondary schools quiz sections at the event held at St.Patrick Awo-Omamma, Oru east council area also received cash gift, school bags, lots of text books and other consolation prizes.
Speaking at the event, President General of Awo- Omamma Great Achievers,AGA GRT. Egeonu Modestus Izuchi said the gesture is to encourage young scholars to improve on their knowledge and the use of English Language, by providing a platform for competitiveness as the only authentic avenue to educational excellence.
The PG further said the association was found in 2012 and has successfully carried put some academic programs like sensitization of the younger ones over education merits and providing exercise books to the primary school pupils .
He said ,”today we are advancing our efforts for our secondary schools students. We are organising an essay competition writing competition for senior sections and quiz for junior sections in which each participants will be rewarded accordingly.
According to Egeonu,”this association exists wholly and solely to help our children and community to succeed. It is established to help our children succeed and become successful as possible. “
He disclosed that AGA as a body planned to embark on series of project such as construction of a community library for the students, construction of a well equipped ICT centre at central location in Awo-Omamma where their children can learn three months programs on computer application and engineering.
He expressed AGA readiness to to give scholarship from secondary school to university to any student that convinces them of his or her brain power,saying that it’s heartening to see lot of outstanding young people doing well in academics.
The PG who described education as the most powerful weapon which can be use to change the world said AGA is ready to help develop and enhance top students of their beloved land.
In her response, the winner of essay writing competition, Favour Okoro, said, “Honestly, I am most grateful to God. I still can’t believe I won.” I never thought I would win. I am in shock. I thank God, my parents, my school, my teachers and the organizers
