The Peoples Democratic Party,ImoStatechapter has raised alarm over the sum of Thirteen Billion, three hundred million Naira Bond belonging to the state, which was handed over by its candidate, Dr Ikedi Ohakim, to his successor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
The PDP through a release signed by its Secretary, Sir George Egu is saying that the money, which has been acknowledge by the present state Commissioner for Finance, Chief Okafor, through an interview in the Sun Newspaper, is about being “diverted”.
The party said that the word “divert” as used by Okafor is an indication that the money may have been squandered by the Okorocha administration, even after Okorocha told Imo populace during his campaigns that Ohakim took N100b Bond and misused it PDP said that the same Okorocha after he got into office said that the Bond was N18.5b, but today has agreed through his Commissioner, Chief Okafor, that Ohakim truly borrowed only N13.3b, which his office has affirmed.
However, the Imo PDP is alleging that it looks clear that Okorocha has spent the money, as their investigation has unveiled that the Bond money has disappeared from the Bank where it was kept.
It urged Okorocha to stop peddling lies to hoodwink the people of Imo State, pointing out that it had gotten to a level the Okorocha administration can no longer fool the people through unsubstantiated stories.
“The PDP wishes to commend the media for being able to smoke out the administration’s insiders on this vexatious matter” Egu wrote.
He said the Bond issue should serve as an eye opener to the good people ofImoState, who should now be more circumspect in their dealings with the Okorocha administration.
