The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigerian (FTAN) Imo State Chapter last Friday celebrated their world Tourism day.
Speaking, at the ceremony which took place at Mayfair Suit, Owerri, Imo state, Chairman of (FTAN) Dr Nwakonobi said that the World Tourism Day which is annually celebrated on the 27th of September, was celebrated a day later than the proposed date due to the Association’s meeting with the Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha at Oguta, adding that the theme for this year’s event is “Tourism and Sustainable Energy; Powering Sustainable Development” which was the 34th celebration world wide.
He however stated that Tourism is regarded as one of the largest Industries in the world which does not only create employment but also promotes a Nations Natural and cultural endowments.
Appreciating the present administration’s efforts towards making Imo state a tourist destination, the Chairman of FTAN promised to partner with the Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha in the development and promoting of Tourism in the Imo state.
The Vice-President of FTAN Chief Charles Okoroafor mni, stated that the Chapter is capable of organizing a glamorous event and praised the decision of the present administration headed by the Governor in refurbishing major tourist centers in Imo State, adding that man-made Tourist destinations are gigantic multi-million Dollar projects which can generate huge income for the state.
The Vice-Chairman opined that Imo state can be metamorphosed into a sizzling tourist EL-Dorado with out borrowing a dollar locally or internationally, stating the enlisted facts which can be developed to generate revenue for both the State and the Local Governments in Imo State.
Other speakers who graced the ceremony include; Chief Ford Ozurumba, (MD De Legend Hotel), Chief Akulonu, Mr. Jonathan Ekenkwo and Prof. Duruaku. The awardees are Prince Dr. Henry Uzor Okafor, Chief Jeffery Ekpebu, Sir. Jude C. Ejimadu, Prof C.I.C Okoli, Prince O.C Nwosu, Chief Nweke Ishmeal Emeka, Chief Charles N. Okoroafor, Dr. Godfrey M. Nwokonobi and Ogechi Iwu of Hot fm.
