Five months after the elections and swearing-in of Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State, there is a strong assurance that payment of pensions to Imo pensioners will start today.
According to a declaration made by the state governor when he held a stakeholders meeting on issues and matters arising from the pensions that the immediate past Governor, Sen Rochas Okorocha couldn’t fulfill.
The “rebuild Imo” administration has been in office for over four months and announcing the resumption of payment of pensions has been widely viewed as the right decision after a long time of not being paid.
It could be observed that in these four months, Ihedioha’s government used to it reorganize and straighten the disorganized and crooked pension payment in the State.
The government few weeks back embarked on the training of adhoc staff who were used for all biometric verification of pensioners in the state.
Trumpeta gathered that all categories of pensioners were captured, including those that were incapacitated, in hospitals and their homes as well as those overseas.
Reports also indicated that the idea of paying two months pension at a time, for the state has also been met with positive and negative reactions from several quarters.
The pensioners no doubt are in good mood today as this has been their prayers considering that some of their colleagues have died while waiting for it, just as others have been rendered incapacitated due to inability to provide health care.
