Residents of Imo State, especially those in the state capital are facing serious security challenges even as murder cases have been recorded since the upsurge in cult related warfare began.
In the last few weeks, there have been reported cases of cult related clashes resulting to deaths. Apart from the deaths, residents for fear of being attacked have gone underground and no longer make public appearances.
Aside from the cult related clashes, residents of the old Owerri town who transact businesses on the popular Douglas Road harbouring Eke Ukwu Owerri market cannot witness moment of respite as they face rampaging gangs of criminals who not only harass but rob people of their belongings under gun point.
The cult related war started last week where two major rivals (names withheld) were said to be involved. The clashes may have been responsible for the two recent deaths including that of an aide to the Chairman of the Imo State Recovery Committee and one fellow. Both were killed in Owerri Township.
Meanwhile, the killer of the aide to the Chairman of the Imo Property Recovery Committee, late Bruno Uchechukwu has been apprehended by the Imo state police command.
This was made available by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu on his facebook page.
He said the murder suspect, one Leonard Dennis Junior aka Toothpick, 22year, believed to be a member of the Neo Black Movement of Africa known as Aiye Confraternity, was arrested at No. 13school road, Owerri.
This is also coming after alarm was raised on Sunday that, a stakeholder of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ohii, Sir Ben Onyeme was shot at, on his way to church in morning at Ohii junction by armed men.
His nephew, Bright Amuche, it was gathered got badly hit by bullet at his private part and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Information also reveal that, the suspects according to a source is from a nearby town to Ohii.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer,Orlando Ikeokwu said investigations are still ongoing over the killer of Jasper Ndubuaku’s aide and has no knowledge of the shooting of Sir Ben Amuche as at press time.
