People living in Orji-Uratta in Owerri North LGA of Imo state have continued to react on the deplorable state of roads in Owerri capital and its environs. The residents wondered if Imo Government Governor Okorocha’s ministry of work and condemned Gov Okorocha’s heart of Pharoah on their predicaments at the roads in the state.
When our reporters visited Okigwe road leading to Orji, people were seen standing at the road in waiting of vehicles that will convey them to their place of work. While some were waiting for hours like sheep without shepherd, others were trekking with sad faces as they barely saw vehicle to take them to their various destinations. There were floods on the road as result of bad road and lack of good drainage. People were seen pushing cars that were seized by heavy flood as traffic officers were very busy and confused on how to control the unfortunate situation.
In an interview with the some of the residents who pleaded anonymity, they blamed Gov. Okorocha of beautifying Government House and its environs while bad roads that should be repaired are abandoned. He also accused the government of witch hunting the residents indirectly by withdrawing the coaster bus provided by Gov. Ohakim when he was in office. Hear him “Gov Okorocha please forgive us in our sins and restore our roads back to standard. As for me, I will say that the Ministry of Works is dead and gone. I am a civil servant that should be in office before 8: am but look at the time. It is 11: am and I came out by 7:4am to board vehicle to my office. Look at keke operators hiking their transport fare to N100 from N50 yet they are barely seen as a result of bad road”. Another resident took a swipe at Governor Okorocha and said “Owelle has the heart of Pharoah. He is beautifying Government House when the roads are bad. People taught that he is our Messiah. The market women and workers are trekking to their offices when he is inUSAtelling people of how he has rescued Imo state. The coaster bus of Gov. Ohakim that helps Orji residents have been withdrawn by Gov. Okorocha. In short, Owelle enweghi obi mmadu (Owelle is heartless).
It would be recalled that Imo lawmakers before embarking on a legislative trip to South Africa forth night ago, called on the Ministry of Works and the governor to critically look into the bad road that connects Owerri capital with other Local Governments. Hon Victor Mere lamented on the Okigwe road while Hon Anyanwu bitterly complained on the Akabo/Ikeduru road that connects to Okigwe and even Enugu state.
