The member representing Ikeduru State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Amb. Uche Ogbuagu has inaugurated a total of 20 Special Assistants (SAs) drawn from across the 12 electoral wards in Ikeduru.
Speaking while inaugurating the aides, Amb. Uche Ogbuagu reminded them of his promise to offer selfless and quality representation to the people of Ikeduru which he made during his campaign. He said his election has kickstarted a new dawn in the history of Ikeduru and he has decided to raise the bar as far as representation in the constituency is concerned.
“It is obvious to all of you that I did not rig my election. The people of Ikeduru gave me overwhelming support and that is why I want to set a new standard that will be used to remember me tomorrow. I want to do a new thing in Ikeduru so that in the next 10 years or 100 years, my name will be in the political annals of Ikeduru, Imo State and Nigeria” he said.
He continued, “I want to be remembered as the first representative to hold a town hall meeting in his first less than 100 days in office, I want to be remembered as the first legislator to commission five people oriented projects across his constituency in his first less than 100 days in office”.
Amb. Ogbuagu emphasized that what he is doing is beyond party politics because he was elected to the State House of Assembly by the entire people of Ikeduru across political, social and religious lines. He said Ikeduru is blessed with a lot of wealthy individuals, and that he wants to use his popular emergence as the representative of Ikeduru to awaken the consciousness of oneness and patriotism in the minds of well to do Ikeduru indigenes for the overall development of Ikeduru. “I want people to start asking questions on what they can do for Ikeduru” he said.
The vibrant lawmaker charged his aides to be his good ambassadors in their various wards and communities. He said his major concern at the moment is how to fulfill his campaign promises to the people of Ikeduru, and is not bothered about the next election like the conventional politicians do.
Amb. Uche Ogbuagu challenged them to come up with fresh ideas on how he can fulfill his mandate and take Ikeduru to a new height. He admonished them to refrain from acts capable of tarnishing the image of his office and the constituency at large, while reminding them that he will not hesitate to drop anyone that is found wanting both in character and in performance. He promised to give their welfare priority attention.
Responding, the Special Assistant on Media, Public Relations and Diaspora, Kelechi Eke, thanked Amb. Uche Ogbuagu for appointing them to join in the task of moving Ikeduru to a new level of development. He stated that the appointment of 20 Special Assistants by Amb. Ogbuagu is unprecedented in the history of representation in Nigeria.
He pledged the support and loyalty of his colleagues to Amb. Ogbuagu, and assured that they will bring their experiences to bear in the realization of the lofty objectives of the lawmaker in order to justify the confidence he reposed in them.
The Director General of Amb. Uche Ogbuagu campaign organization, Hon. Chris Egesimba witnessed the occasion.
