IBC PENSIONERS ON STREET PROTEST; REJECT N10,000 FEEDING MONEY

Pensioners in Imo State Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Owerri have resolved to take the bull by the horn by moving a step ahead in their quest to compel the state government to pay them their 23 months pension arrears.

Imo Trumpeta learnt that the pensioners are fed up with the cock and bull stories fed to them by representatives of the Imo State Government, wondering why despite repeated assurances from the State Government, nothing in the mould of payment has been forthcoming.

One of the pensioners who spoke to this newspaper on condition of anonymity said it is regrettable that men and women of yesteryears who gave in their toil and broil in the service of the Corporation are treated with disdain and ignominy by a government that claims it is on a rescue mission.

It was gathered that they are fed  with the antics of government representatives who make empty promises; hence they have resolved to embark on a peaceful demonstration to Government House, Owerri, to express their displeasure over their plight.  This Newspaper learnt that plans have been concluded by the pensioners to go on with the protest, as they await the arrival of Governor Rochas Okorocha from his overseas trip.

They are said to be infuriated with the State Government’s negligence, particularly the promise made by a Commissioner (names withheld) who promised them that a paltry sum of N10, 000 will be paid to each pensioner to ‘take care of them’

This infuriated the pensioners who see such offer as a Greek gift and an insult on their person wondering why such a cheap offer should be made to them to compromise their pension which will service their long term needs and plans.

Efforts to speak to Information and Strategy Commissioner, Chinedu Offor, whose office is said to be handling the matter , was unsuccessful as  he was said to be part of the delegation that cruised overseas with the Governor
