OWELLE MOCK – NATIONS CUP ENTRES KNOCK – OUT STAGE.


The 2012 edition of the Owelle Mock – nations cup football competition will from today resume hostilities as 8 teams will lock horns in the quarter final stage.

According to information reaching Imo Trumpeta, from the 20 teams that started the championship on the 26th of August, 2012, only eight are still in contention for the coveted trophy.

A statement released by the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Mr Raymond Ebede (PA to the SA on Sports to the Governor, Amb. Kanu Nwankwo) did reveal that Ghana and Egypt qualified from group A, Mauritania and Burkina Faso made it from group B, Mozambique were joined by host Nation Tunisia after losing their first game to the same side (Mozambique) in group C while Mali which is managed by Rev Father Chika Okpara made it to the quarters with the surprise team of the tournament Morocco in group D.

He also informed that the first quarter final match will be between Mozambiqueand Egypttoday Thursday the 27th of September 2012.

Two new teams Mauritania and Morocco will be sizing each other with the Semi – final ticket at stake on Friday as Mauritania who surprised every one to top group B were we had Togo and two time winners Nigeria will be making history if they reach the semi’s.

The 3rd quarter final game will be between Mali and Burkina Faso (Last years finalists), while the last quarter final match and the titanic one will see host, Tunisia trade tackles with youthful side Ghana for the last semi final ticket.

The big casualties of this years tournament proving book makers wrong were, Kenya the defending champions, Nigeria (Two time winners), former champion, Cameroon and the two under achievers of the championship Togo and Cote D’ Ivoire, who as always has attended every tournament with high expectation playing good football with quality players but have not made it to the finals.
