Pandemonium struck in Umuna Ancient Kingdom in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo state recently, when a woman (name withheld) suspected to be about 50 years old, was caught in an attempted kidnap of a five years old girl to sell for #200,000.
Information gathered revealed that the said five years old minor(name withheld) was playing with her siblings in the their compound along Amaigbo road in Umuna, when the suspected kidnapper kicked her ankle and hypnotized her, in what is popularly called “touch and follow”, making her follow her about sheepishly.
Her siblings who upon noticing the strange behavior, called her severally to no avail, raised alarm and called their aunty selling close by, who subsequently alerted passers- by and the woman was apprehended, when it was clear her intentions were queer.
But for the timely intervention of the security coordinator of the community, who informed the traditional ruler, who in turn ordered for her to be brought to the palace for questioning, she would have been lynched.
Corroborating the report, the Traditional Ruler of the community, HRM Eze (Dr) Douglas Okwara, Okwarachukwu IV, Igwe of Umuna Ancient Kingdom, told our reporter that the incident has since been handled by the police.
Explaining further, he revealed how the suspect confessed, after pulling out some substances suspected to be charms she uses on her victims, from her private part.
The suspect also exposed one Chioma who resides at a popular hotel around the vicinity, Ekwebelem Hotel, to have sent her on the mission and revealed how they sell children for #200,000.
The monarch also revealed, how the police was invited and the said Chioma was arrested and taken to the SCID, for further investigations into matter.
According to him, when he got a wind of how the family of Chioma was conniving with the female IPO to drop the case, he took up the matter to the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Ladodo who dispatched men of the police force to raid the said hotel and about six female prostitutes were arrested and are currently, in police detention.
Eze Umuna sounded a note of warning to kidnappers lurking around his community to either desist from the act or be ready to face the music, as he warned sternly that Umuna will be too hot for them.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu said he is yet to be briefed on the matter.
