Okorocha’s “Akachi” Structure Goes Down In Owerri ..As Imolites Jubilate

The masses of Imo State yesterday trooped out in jubilation, as the “Akachi Tower” constructed by the out-gone Government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha goes down on the weight of bulldozers.

The “Akachi Tower” christened “Okorocha’s Tower of Babel” by Imolites is located on the hill top of Nwaorie River as you enter Owerri through Aba Road.

Yesterday, Bulldozers rolled under the large Tower constructed on large pillars that has a hand with five fingers stuck out.

The Tower is so big and tall that it could be sighted from all the corners of Imo State capital, Owerri, because it was constructed on top of the hill surrounding Nwaorie River.

During the Okorocha administration, it was given various interpretations by Imo masses, who are barred from nearing the Tower, even when the Government then said it was a tourist centre.

Before Okorocha left a few days ago, be carried out a face-lift on the Tower by removing the “hand” untop of the pillar which was remoulded by some imported Chinese potters.

Before now, a majority of Imo populace had questioned the rationale behind the construction of such a gigantic Tower, said to have set Imo State back to the tone of several millions of Naira.

The jubilation on the streets of Owerri yesterday was palpable and expected as many had accused the past administration of encouraging idolatry with many towers and statues scattered around the State Capital, and yet restricted from certain people, even when they are called Tourist centres.

However, it is not yet clear who ordered the demolition of the “Akachi Tower”.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Imo State, Hon Emeka Ihedioha through his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Steve Osuji has said he was not the one that ordered the demolition of the monument.
