Massive overhaul Looms In Imo Judiciary

There are strong indications that the coming of the new government in Imo State will usher in radical changes in the state civil service, especially the Judiciary, Trumpeta reports.

Signs that there would be a massive overhaul in the Imo State Ministry of Justice, Trumpeta learnt became manifest as a source close to the new governor, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, revealed that the decision to streamline the workforce will start from the Judiciary.

The source further revealed that the Ihedioha administration may not tolerate the impunity and disregard to laid down procedures which has ravaged ministries like that of Justice. Ihedioha during his inaugural speech had declared intention to wake the civil service and put measures meant to put the workers in proper shape.

Trumpeta learnt that some staff of the Imo state ministry of justice have been alleged to be known with acts of intimidation and using their proximity to the seat of justice to malign and obstruct flow of justice in very improper conduct.

Some Imo citizens have complained about forceful takeover of lands and landed property by these lawyers. It is alleged that they also try in many ways to influence rulings in the courts of Imo State.

It is hopeful that the new administration will weed out bad eggs in the system and should not be cowed or deceived by the henchmen in the ministry, a concerned legal practitioner offered.

Speaking in anonymity, another lawyer was afraid that some of the major culprits were given last minute appointments and confirmations by Rochas Okorocha. Some of them, including counsel at the Solicitor-General’s office have been dragged to court seeking recovery of their properties.

The incoming administration according to the lawyer should particularly check all the last minute appointments, particularly, at the Solicitor-General’s office to be sure they will not be perpetuating impunity and obstruct the well-intended clean up that is about to happen.
