A tinge of drama was witnessed on the floor of the chamber as members of the Imo State House of Assembly rushed to confirm names nominated to serve as Judicial Service Commission members for the state.

A surprise development erupted on the floor of the Imo State House of Assembly yesterday when the member representing Ideato South State Constituency, resigned his position to be considered as member of the State Judicial Service Commission.

The lawmaker, Hon Ikechukwu Amuka called it quits with legislative business to accept an appointment from government of Okorocha when it was revealed that for a member to accept appointment, he/she must resign his/her appointment first.

Part of the deliberations of the House holding plenary after resumption of business was the considerations of nominees for the Imo State Judicial commission.

The governor’s nominees for the Commission have Hon (Barr) Ikenna Emeh as Chairman, while another former lawmaker, Simeon Iwunze is a member including a serving lawmaker, Amuka.

Mrs Choma Ekeopara is the 4th member of the committee as listed.

The House relaxed every other item in order to allow the committee of the whole House to commence on that Thursday afternoon.

The majority leader, Hon Lugard Osuji moved the motion of having the committee of the Whole House because Ikenna Emeh and Simeon Iwunze who brought the special letter to speaker did not go out rather they waited behind to hear the result of their message.

Mr Speaker who Chairman the committee of the Whole House directed the former lawmakers Emeh and Iwunze to come out for recognition.

They came out and sat down and later, the two former lawmakers who served in 7th House of Assembly presented their curriculum vitae (CV) orally at the floor of the House.

The first to present his academic back ground was Ikenna Emeh. His presentation was accepted. Barr Iwunze was poetic and dramatic during his own presentation. House members were impressed and they hailed them. Mrs Chioma Ekeopara was absent at the seating as her CV was not read openly.

Ikechukwu Amuka who was physically seen at the seating avoided to present his academic qualification and according to our source made people at the gallery to raise eyes brows.

Hon Lugard Osuji who noticed the blunder pointed out that Amuka should resign before accepting the new appointment. Amuka dramatically accepted to resign. Mike Iheanetu advised that open resignation is not necessary but after inauguration Amuka is no longer a legislator.
