Fresh Leadership Tussle Hits Imo APC .Camp Hope, Madumere Supporters Battle Over Party Control

The troubles bedeviling Imo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC seem unending with another leadership tussle brewing in the party.

It would be recalled that peace had remained elusive in the state chapter culminating in the party going to the 2019 election factionalized.

Reports reaching Trumpeta have it that the coalition group, comprising those opposed to the desire of Governor Okorocha pocketing the party are experiencing internal crisis after the general elections.   The Coalition group consists of former Okorocha aides and allies led by Madumere, Jude Ejiogu, TOE Ekechi and others and a PDP breakaway faction Uzodinma led into Imo APC.

Reasons for the fresh crisis, Trumpeta learnt have to do with leadership squabbles over who takes charge of the party’s affairs in the state after the election.

Trumpeta reliably learnt that the raging leadership tussle is between the Governorship candidate of the party in the just concluded election, Senator Hope Uzodinma and the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere.

The exit of Okorocha, via suspension had opened chances for a new state leader to emerge. It was gathered that Senator Uzodinma who represents Orlu zone by his position as the governorship took over and dictated pace as the leader. But the end of the election where APC came a distant fourth position has thrown open the quest for a new leadership.

This newspaper gathered that after the dismal outing of the party, Madumere, is claiming leader of the party as he summoned a meeting of stakeholders to assume full control.

Barely 24 hours after the Madumere meeting where he claimed Okorocha and not APC lost, allies of Uzodinma rallied for a meeting at the Owerri make shift office of the party. The meeting, it was further gathered was arranged to regain full control of the party leadership.

It was learnt that while pro Madumere APC members attended the function called by the Deputy Governor, those of Camp Hope, the campaign organization of Senator Uzodinma were found at the meeting under the party’s governorship candidate.

The development is said to be affecting the workability of the caretaker committee of the party made up of appointees drawn from Uzodinma and Madumere followers.
