Arch Bishop AJV Obinna will soon retire as the spiritual father incharge of Owerri archdiocese and in view of his retirement expected to come in two years time, race for his succession has began seriously among the priests in Owerri.

Information revealed that the outgoing Arch Bishop have submitted names as possible successors in order to avoid a repeat of the Ahiara Diocese saga in the catholic church.

Our source revealed that the expected retirement of the Arch Bishop will create opportunity and vacuum for the elevation of priests who will eventually succeed Obinna.

Trumpeta was informed that in view of the template which allows the incumbent to list names of would be successors, Priests in the Diocese are warming up for Obinna to consider them in the successor list.

Most of the worshippers who are aware of this development have started praying for a smooth succession and have also advised that priests in Owerri Arch diocese allow God to decide.

The names of the possible successors have been submitted to the Vatican City as the lucky priest that will take over from Arch Bishop Obinna will be announced immediately after the retirement. A.J.V Obinna was ordained a Bishop in 1993 after Bishop Mark Unegbu retired. He initiated Odenigbo lecture .The plan for the celebration of 25th yrs anniversary of his ordination as Bishop is coming at the pick of his retirement.
