Imo State governor-elect, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, CON, KSC has pledged to revisit the issue of some teachers unduly sacked by the expiring governor, Rochas Okorocha, because according to him, those teachers still have much to contribute to the education system of the State.
Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha made the promise in his speech at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Mbutu in Aboh Mbaise LGA of Imo State at the thanksgiving service on the occasion of his 54th birthday anniversary celebration.
An advocate of free qualitative education, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is also a reputed believer in the role of teacher education and adequate remuneration for teachers in the achievement of a better education.
He said, “I will set up a bureau that will look into the issue of unduly sacked teachers in the State. I feel they still have a lot to offer the State.”
The expiring government witnessed a gruesome regime of undue dismissal of teachers in the teaching service of Imo State. There are existing issues of petitions by the affected teachers. That has high propensity for demoralizing teachers in State.
That must have warranted the incoming governor-elect to promise to take a look at the circumstances surrounding the sack of the teachers.
It may be recalled that the governor-elect during his electioneering campaigns, frowned at the acute shortage of teachers in the State and the lack of training for the few in service.
