FLAMINGOES SET FOR HOSTILITIES IN AZERBAIJAN 2012 UNDER 17 FIFA WOMEN WORL CUP

Nigerian under 17 female football team (the Flamingoes) are all set to begin the contest for the FIFA u-17 women’s World cup, other wise known as Azerbaijan ’12.

The Flamingoes along side Ghana and Gambia are the three African countries participating in the three week long tournament.

The Nigerian girls have been present  at the FIFA u-17 Women world cup and two years ago in Trinidad and Tobago became the first African country to advance to the quarter final stage were they played a game that ranks as one of the all time greats at any FIFA competition, even as North Korea defeated them 6-5 in extra time.

Coach Peter Dedevbo, who was also in charge of the team at the last finals, indicated that he has looked very carefully at the squad he used during the qualifying games and made the necessary inclusions.

Dedevbo who doubles as the head coach OF Delta Queens, is confident that the women’s game in the Football crazy country (Nigeria) will continue to grow.

The Flamingoes had little trouble in the two rounds of qualifying for the finals, beating Kenya 2-0 and 3-0 before following it up with a 2-1 and 5-10 thumping of Zambia with three key players Chidinma Edeji, Halimatu Ayinde and Victoria Aidelomon getting two goals each.
