AFTERMATH OF IMO LAWMAKERS VISIT TO S/AFRICA – Assembly Complex Turns “Ghost Town”

Few days after members of the Imo State House of Assembly left the shores of Nigeriafor a legislative retreat in South Africa, activities are presently now at low ebb as Assembly watchers described the situation at the complex as a “Ghost town”. When Imo Trumpeta correspondent visited the House recently, activities were at a halt, as most offices of the lawmakers were almost deserted.

Most legislative aides attached to the members of the House were seen loitering the premises of the Assembly complex.

Some of them engaged in idle exercise as they were sighted in groups discussing the present development in the state legislature.

Some constituents of some of the lawmakers who visited the Assembly complex for one reason or the other, were disappointed with the development as they left, It was also observed that the House has been in darkness, following the absence of power supply. It was not ascertained if the absence of power supply is applicable to the Assembly complex alone, considering the fact that Owerri has in recent times witnessed epileptic power supply.

It will be recalled that 26 members of the Imo State House of Assembly went to South –Africa on a legislative retreat.

The S.A Media to the speaker, Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha, described the visit as a measure by Imo lawmakers to “re – fuel”. He said the Speaker and other honourable members of the House should be applauded for taking the initiative to update themselves.
