DAN ANYIAM SET FOR ALL COVERED SPECTATORS STAND

Football fans in Imo state especially supporters of Heartland football club of Owerri will from next season do from next season enjoy watching their darling team in covered stadium.

Imo Trumpeta can authoritatively reveal that work has already commenced on covering all the seating terrace in Dan Anyiam stadium, as fans will not have to contend with, the rain or sun.

It would be recalled that his Excellency, the executive Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha last year promised to renovate the stadium and bring it to a modern standard for a CAF competition games including making sure that all the spectators stands are covered.

Although work started on other facilities in the stadium, especially, the turf, the dressing room and the seats which are yet to be fixed properly. But the roofing of the state box did receive some sort of attention before it started wearing off almost immediately it was finished to the dismay of many football fans.

Meanwhile, the Hon Commissioner of Sports Hon Kenneth Emelu last week in a press briefing reiterated the government’s desire to give the people of Imo State a befitting sporting arena when he stated that the all round roofing of Dan Anyiam stadium will resume in earnest to enable Heartland use the facility come next season in their CAF games.

Hon Emelu also revealed that the state government has through the Ministry of Youth and Sports released up to 30% of the total cost for the two Olympic stadia in Orlu and Okigwe to the two construction companies (ARON and REFORM GROUP) who have both started work at the stadium sites.

He then said the reason was to ensure that Dan Anyiam stadium is not over laboured as well as to give citizens in both Okigwe and Orlu the opportunity of enjoying quality sporting facilities.
