Mr. Godfrey Omenichekwe Onwu   (1943 – 2018)

Let me use this opportunity to sympathise with the family of a bossom pal and school mate, Mr Joachim Onwu. I crossed paths with the deceased first son at the seminary. The Mater Ecclesiae Seminary, Nguru, Mbaise pioneers/SPCS 87 mourn with one of us over the death. I extend my condolences.

According to what the family, represented by Joachim .O Onwu, an entrepreneur, and Old Boy wrote about the late disciplinarian and principled man; Mr. Godfrey Omenichekwe Onwu (1943 – 2018) a native of Umuosinta, Amuzi – Ikenanzizi, Obowo LGA, Imo State, was a disciplined and principled man, who lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation. He retired from the Imo State Civil Service as a Principal Photographer with the Government House, Owerri after thirty-five years (1966 – 2001) of meritorious service, which began from Ministry of Information, Enugu (old Anambra State). His philosophy of life is “a good name is better than silver and gold”.

Nature gave him gentility and simplicity, while nurture gave him honesty and creativity. He was an exceptional and amiable gentleman, who believed in the integrity of his profession. He was admired for his honesty, creativity and hard work. As a youth he was cherished for his football skills. He was a peacemaker, who upheld justice and fairness. He was a moderate realist, who was tolerant and accommodating. He was dedicated, magnanimous and kindhearted. He will ever be remembered for his stunning qualities.

Daddy, Dee Goddy, Onye Foto, Onye Army, and Nwoke Obioma as he was called by his admirers, was a man of few words, very passionate about his profession. He will ever remain in our minds and hearts for his ideals and legacies. He is fondly remembered by his lovely wife, Nneoma Veronica Onuabuchi Onwu; eight children, nine grandchildren, two sons in-law, and three daughters in-law; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, sisters and in-laws; a host of other relatives, friends, admirers, well-wishers and sympathizers. He was buried on Dec 29th, 2018.
