Two apex socio cultural organizations, Owerri Zone Political Leadership Forum (OZOPOLF) and Olu Okigwe, last Sunday met to work together and form a formidable partnership to wrestle power from Orlu Zone.
Speaking to a tumultuous crowd at his residence in Owerri, the chairman/leader of OZOPOLF, Prince Charles Amadi, expressed his profound respect and regard for Okigwe people (zone) whom he said their voice can not be silenced or swept under the carpet in Imo politics. He also disclosed that there is need for the two apex organizations to parley together as a basis to correct the political imbalances in the state which has distorted the Imo charter of Equity.
Prince Amadi noted also that both Okigwe and Orlu zones have governed Imo for atleast nine years (9) each under a full democratic setting, while the only time Owerri zone mounted the saddle, it spent only one and half (1½) years under a diarchical government, pointing out that Owerri zone has sacrificed a lot to support of other zones at different times to make sure that the Charter of Equity is sustained.
Prince Amadi made it clear that the main objective of OZOPOLF is to do everything politically, economically, culturally and socially possible to ensure that a person of Owerri zone extraction irrespective of the local government area becomes the next governor of Imo State come May 29th 2015. He added that only a strategic partners hep with Okigwe zone will ensure the realization of the project.
In his response, the secretary for Olu Okigwe, Hon Emma Nwosu pledged the total support of Okigwe people to the cause of equity, fairness and justice and also reminded the mammoth crowd that Okigwe zone began the fight against truncating the charter of equity in 2011.
