As the campaigns for the 2019 general elections kick off ,Archbishop AJV Obinna, the Bishop of Owerri Arch Diocese has called on electorate’s and candidates of various political parties to eschew violence, thuggery and breakdown of law.
The clergy stated this on Sunday during a mass Thanksgiving to kick-start the Peoples Democratic party ,PDP Campaign held at Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri ,Imo State Capital .
Archbishop AJV Obinna, in his homely blessed the Gubernatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ,the entire people of the state and for peaceful and upright voting in Imo .
He said, “over 67 gubernatorial candidates from various political parties are vying for Imo governorship slot made for an individual and enjoined party supporters not to allow themselves to be induced or used to perpetuate violence as they tour the the state for campaigns.
His words, “since you have come to seek the face of God as you commence your campaign for elections always remember that all powers belong to God. Allow God to operate in his own ways. We don’t need bastardization of prophesy and anointing. ”
Bishop Obinna said “I’m just a servant of God and I’m not powerful and mighty but God is the only one that is powerful . we want peaceful and violent free election. We want the safety of God as you move around entire state. I pray that there shall be no loss in all spheres ”.
“As you go out for your campaigns be mindful that winning is not everything. its God who gives winning. Let us be more focus in our worship with God.
There is endless war in Nigeria and it may get worst ,that’s why we must pray fervently for peaceful and upright voting in our land .If only our leaders will refuse to be dictators , tyrants and humble themselves ,we may get there.
Expressing concerns, the Bishop said, “ there is too much suffering in the country: poverty, hunger, insecurity, violence, fear the list is endless. He urged politicians to reflect on the purpose of public office and its service to the people.
Among those who graced the Thanksgiving Mass organized by the Peoples Democratic Party were the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha ,the PDP chairman ,Barr. Charles Ezekwem and other Party candidates vying for various elective positions on Sunday lunched the party campaign with a thanks giving mass at Assumpta Cathedral Owerri .
Among those seeking God face at the colourful event organised by the PDP Imo chapter were former Governor of Imo State ,Chief Achike Udenwa ,Hon. Jones Onyereri and Hon Henry Nwawuba .
Others members of the party present during the Thanksgiving Mass organized by the Peoples Democratic Party were Dr Alex Obi, Rt. Hon. Chuma Nnaji, Hon. Ezenwa Onyewuchi, Chief Chris Okewulonu, Hon. Mayor Eze, and the host of other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State.
