CHIJIOKE EKECHUKWU ANNUAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF.

 

The people of Nguru – Nweke in Aboh Mbaise LGA ofImoStateare in for the best of football entertainment, as the youths of the area marshal out their best to compete for the coveted trophy for Chijioke Ekechukwu annual football competition.

According to the chairman of the local organizing committee of the tournament, Nze Philip Onyenali, the competition is for youths from the six villages that make up Nguru Nweke which include: Eziala, Egberede, Okwu, Ezuhu, Umuamadi and Amaohuru. The tournament, the chairman said has a redemption fee of N200, 000 for the winners, N150,000 for the 2nd position and N100,000 for the 3rd finishers.

He added that everything has been put in place to have a fair and successful competition this year. The competition which started this year had its maiden match played on Sunday 16th September between Okwu community and Umuamadi which ended one – zero in favour of Umuamadi with a goal scored in the 44th minutes of the first half by Nnamdi Egbujor sporting Jcee No 7.

Speaking to journalists after the opening ceremony of the competition, the Cup donor and sponsor, Mr Chijioke Ekechukwu, MD/CEOBristol. Investments LTD,Abujasaid his aim of instituting the annual football competition is devoid of any political undertone. He emphasized that he wants to use the tournament to expose the youths to positive football competition for scouts to discover talents. The competition will also create entertainment to the people, foster unity among the six villages and provide opportunity for physical exercise and keep the youth engaged in order to keep them off crime and other social vices.

Mr Chijioke Ekechukwu, a devoid Christian said the competition is also a way of thanking God almighty for the favours he has been showering on him. He charged the youths to participate fully and urging the local organizing committee and match officials to ensure fairness, discipline and rules of the game.

The leaders of thoughts in the community commended the donor for donating the trophy and sponsoring tournament with Jcees, kits and footballs donated to all the teams in all the six villages. The tournament is played every Sunday at Aboh Mbaise police state play ground along Eke Ahiara junction /Okpala junction road the next match will be play on Sunday 23rd September between Ezuhu and Amaohuru communities.
