The Imo State Commissioner for Education, Dr Adaobi Obasi says education is the major weapon used by Gov Okorocha to rescue Imolites. She said this while declaring open a 5 day Workshop organized by Imo state Universal Basic Education (IMSUBEB) in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), for Imo teachers at Imo state University, Owerri.
Dr. Obasi told them to take the workshop serious as they are expected to go home and train others after acquiring the required knowledge. She informed the participants that cheques for free education in IMSU and Imo Poly are ready and that the governor has so far spent N3billion naira on free education.
IMSUBEB Chairman, Dr (Mrs.) Uche Ejiogu, in her address welcomed the teachers and informed them that the workshop is aimed boosting their capacity in an innovative manner. She said that Gov. Okorocha has paid N200,000 naira for renovation of every primary school in the state and 10,000 naira to teachers for wardrobe allowances.
Dr. Ejiogu said that 3714 participants for the workshop were drawn from all over the state and that they would be tutored on 8 core subjects. She also said that a renowned IMSU Professor will handle them on the subjects and reassured them that teachers that are due for promotion will get it. She however, urged them to accept the outcome of the Rationalization Exercise in good faith as it is to the benefit of the educational system. She used the medium to inform them that SUBEB’s education week will take place on 22nd November,2012.
The Chief host and IMSU VC, Prof B.E.B. Nwoke, reminded teachers that they are nation builders and urged them to take the workshop serious. He promised to authenticate their training certificate by signing it.
