Campus Gist has learnt that the authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede will this week start the balloting for available hostel spaces in the institution.
The balloting exercise which looks more like a lottery is a process by which students pick up wrapped papers randomly. If the student is lucky one that indicates that he has been given a hostel. If not, he will pick one that shows he has not been given a hostel space.
The balloting exercise which starts this week will be done according to departments, with students expected to pay N500 participate.
Campus Gist wonders if it is not exploitative on the part of the institution to ask the students to part with N500 each when they know that not all the students will be able to get the accommodation.
Meanwhile, the second batch admission lists of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede have been released. Campus gist who was in the institution this week saw hundreds of candidates frantically searching for their names in the list that were pasted at the school’s administrative building.
It would be recalled that the school had earlier released the first batch of the merit lists, last month. These are also indications that more lists may be released soon.
Campus Gist congratulates all those that were lucky to be admitted and urge them to brace up for the challenges in the ivory tower.
