Members of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Okuku, Ward 3, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State have appealed to a renowned politician, Chief Desmond O. Onyia (Odesy) to come back and re-invigorate the party in the area.
The plea was made known to Chief Onyia and his political allies from the New All Progressives Grand Alliance, N-APGA on Tuesday by the leadership of Okuku PDP when the ward executive members paid him a courtesy visit at his residence at Odesy Avenue on Onitsha road beside Vinal Aluminum.
Speaking on behalf of the party at the ward level, Hon Vitalis Anyanwunze described Chief Onyia as a man of impeccable character and politician of superlative class. He said the members of PDP in Okuku have x-rayed all her sons and daughters, adding that the name, Odesy have echoed in the words of the entire Okuku people.
Hon Anyanwunze said, “We will organize a grand reception, we will let people know that we have gotten a leader”.
Also speaking, a former special assistant to Chief Ikedi Ohakim, former Imo State Governor, Hon Ndubuisi Opara said, “we are beckoning on you, Hon Chief Desmond O. Onyia to please come back to PDP. you have over the years exhibited rare virtues, you have shown us what true democracy is all about, you have shown that power is inclusive, we say God bless you as you respond to the cry of your people”.
The vice chairman of the ward, Ogu Obed in his speech said the PDP in Okuku are ready to embrace Chief Onyia’s ideology in concordance with Emeka Peters Aku who expressed shock over the existence of honest politicians in Imo such as Chief Onyia.
The immediate past chairman, crown prince Godfrey U. Ashiegbu while thanking Hon.Onyia for the warm reception, stated that the members of PDP are ready to march through the street of Okuku proclaiming that they have seen the light.
Responding, Chief Onyia said, “I am deeply touched by this visit, I want to first of all acknowledge the fact that you are my brothers. As a leader, it is either you make input economically or politically. Most leaders do not bring anything to the table, yet, they want to reap bountifully. Okuku ward gave PDP the highest vote in 2015. With honesty and fair play, a political party can achieve victory.
Party faithful present at the meeting include Kamalu Raphael Ifeanyi, Emeka Peters Aku, John Ajoku, Diala Solomon O, Prince C.O. D Osuji among others.
