After losing from pocketing the governorship tickets of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Senator Sam Daddy Anyanwu and Mr Okey Eze respectively are drawn in a battle to become the governorship flagbearer of the SDP.
It would be recalled that while Anyanwu, the Senator representing Owerri zone lost to Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, Okey Eze were among those of APGA, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume swept off to pick the party’s ticket.
Trumpeta learnt that not wanting to be losers ahead 2019 since they have no tickets to be fielded by any political party for election, the two started searching for other platforms for to be involved.
Information available to the newspaper’s disposal has it that despite dragging Ihedioha to court over the manner the PDP primaries was conducted, the Senator’s eye is alleged to be in SDP where he is reported to be locking horns with Eze for the single ticket.
A source in the SDP disclosed that as part of the Senator’s Option B should his case against Ihedioha comes to nullity, a negotiation with the party to fly the party’s ticket is ongoing.
According to the details, the move to SDP is predicated on a directive from a top notcher PDP chieftain with links to the Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. It was learnt that because Samdaddy camp through Iwuanyanwu was for Atiku during the Presidential primaries, there was sympathy and assurance from him to move to another party to achieve dreams of becoming Imo Governor in 2019. A reliable source further revealed that the PDP Presidential candidate allegedly has a hand in the establishment of SDP and can turn things in his favour.
Reports also have it that Eze on his own part has finished deals to fly SDP ticket and likely going to officially be pronounced the governorship candidate on Wednesday.
Our correspondent who monitored movement of the Mbaise born Eze disclosed that the campaign structure, named Project 27, who were his proposed delegates for APGA primaries have been briefed of the SDP movement.
“Yes, we have been briefied on the next move, which is SDP that’s where Okey Eze is heading to” confirmed a source who is a member of Eze’s political group.
Eze is hopeful to create impact with SDP, where the ticket holder for was said to have agreed to withdraw and handover the ticket to him when window for substitution opens.
