A former appointee in the administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Ichie Best Mbanaso escaped being thrown into prison by whiskers after his cases came up in court.

Mbanaso who had served as a commissioner and SA to Governor Rochas Okorocha escaped spending the rest of the weeks in the Gulag by whiskers when the Chief Magistrate court where he was arranged on Monday granted him bail.

The Orlu born politician who recently severed relationship with Okorocha was lucky to avoid the prison yard when the Chief Magistrate granted his lawyer, Fintan Ilika the relief he sought to grant him bail based on health grounds.

The police prosecutor had in the course of the argument against the bail in the first and second cases Mbanaso was charged stated that it would be at risk to do so considering that the suspect is allegedly interfering with the investigation as calls from all quarters coming over his matter.

But the magistrate said that based on health grounds which the lawyer has proven, Mbanaso should be granted bail because only the living can stand trial.

The surety according to the Magistrate should be resident in the state.

Mbanaso had been detained since Wednesday last week in police custody on various allegations until he was brought to court today to face multiple charges related to stealing and 419.
