Although the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL, and infact all football activities in the nation is currently at a halt, lovers of Heartland Football club of Owerri and some stakeholders of the club have continued to express concern over the club’s faith as regards their position on the league table.
The concern which is coming at the heels of report making rounds that the NPFL actions may resume in a week time (though unconfirmed) suggests that Heartland FC who are currently last on the 20 team log with a huge points gap between the Owerri based club and their nearest club on the log with about 13 points may have been automatically condemned for relegation even if they were to win most of their 14 remaining games when actions finally resumes on the elite division.
One of the stakeholders who spoke out of anonymity for fear of victimization pointed out that their greatest worry is the lukewarm attitude exhibited by the clubs management stating that instead of working seriously on ways to ensure that the club is not relegated immediately after they got promoted, they are busy chasing shadow.
He went further to say that even the chairman of the club as he learnt was about to take a chieftaincy title an action he deemed not proper considering the predicament they are faced with.
The stakeholder meanwhile called on the management to have a rethink on their activities and direct more attention on things that can help the club swim out of the relegation zone when the league actions return.
Equally he called on the government to look into the activities of the club with the view of averting what he regarded as an impending doom and shame immediate return down to the lower division will bring to the state.
Citing some of the reasons why the club is faced with relegation threats. Our source pointed out that the style of recruiting players especially before the commencement of the season was totally shambolic accusing the management of not going for tested players even when they were aware of the fact that NPFL games are different with that of NNL yet they went and signed mediocres.
