The battle raging between the Governor of Imo State and the Elected Chairmen is taking a new dimension as there is the likelihood that the Federal Government may freeze the Accounts of theImoStatefrom the Federation Account, until the impasse is finally resolved.
According to information available to Imo Trumpeta, since Governor, Okorocha is leaving no stone unturned in making sure that the Council Chairmen do not return to their seats, the embattled Chairmen themselves have vowed to stop Okorocha from having his hands on Local Government Funds.
It was learnt that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its elected Chairmen have decided to ask the appropriate quarters to invoke the chapter of the Nigerian Constitution which says that only elected Council Chairmen are entitled to receive the Council funds, for the benefit of the people who voted them in, and not any other contraption in LGAs.
The battle-tested Chairmen, who have shown doggedness in their fight to reclaim their mandates, have also headed to the National Assembly to lobby the House of Representatives to invoke the House Rule which instructed that only State that have elected Council Chairmen be released the funds meant for such LGAs.
There is also the indication that the House of Representatives may summon the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for not heeding to court orders, and creating room for chaos and mayhem in the state, that may heighten the security problems of the Nation.
Imo Trumpeta has it on good authority that as Okorocha is bent on frustrating the return of the Council Chairmen, they too are not resting in pursuing their matter to the highest level in the land, including to the Supreme Court.
Freezing of the States Accounts is one of the genuine measures by the Council Chairmen to fight for their rights in a democratic environment, it was said.
The Council Chairmen on Monday stormed the Aso Rock Presidency where they presented their complaints to Alhaji Guliak, the Special Adviser to President Jonathan, on Political matters who promised that the Presidency would delve intoImoStatebefore it boils over.
It would be recalled that Gov Rochas had claimed that the elected Chairmen had their tenure expired on August 0, 2012 and directed that their salaries and emoluments for June and July be paid to them.
The Council Chairmen rejected the Greek gift, and insisted that they were yet to complete their tenure, which Okorocha truncated through a radio announcement which sacked them last year.
Already, pundits are saying that between last year and now, Billions of Naira had passed through the Federation Account to Imo LGAs, who received peanuts through the un-elected Transition Chairmen manning the 27 LGAs, in Imo, therefore under developing Imo LGA within this period.
Therefore, it is these Billions of Naira that the Council Chairmen are asking the Federal Government to stop sending to Imo until elected Council Chairmen return to their Councils.
