Life in our Campuses – part 1

From the very beginning when God created heaven and earth, he had made the night and the day appear in their normal time.

In the existence of night, night life on campus can never be dismissed by anyone who has being to the four walls of tertiary institutions.

Night life on campus usually begins at sunset (6pm upwards), when students enjoy the groove and trills of the evening breeze.

Investigations gathered revealed that on some campuses, some venues are lively during the day, but quiet like the grave yard at night.  However, on some other Campuses, these venues are usually bubbling with various activities till dawn.

This period fits various forms of fun – filled activities such as attending shows, parties, “Necking and cuddling” in love gardens and parks around campuses between intimate friends.  Even, most ‘guys’on campus deem this period necessary to visit the hostels of their girlfriends.

For the students in Imo State University and other Institutions of higher Learning in and around Owerri, the night is especially dedicated to reading and burning of midnight candles, which in some campuses, have been tagged “Till-day-break”, (TDB).

Finding this period lucrative for business are Keke operators, who in their bid to make extra money, convey students from one reading point to another depending on the type of reading the student is going for especially the female students.

Again, the students no longer wait for their Students Union Government (SUG) to organize a show before they catch their fun.  Against this background, they hit nearby and far-away clubs like, ’40-40’, Orange Groove, Optagon and All Seasons night clubs, while those who do not fancy going outside organise small hostel parties or around their neighbourhood.

More so, it is common this days that students who are celebrating their birthday do schedule their party at night, when their friends and well wishers come together to drink and feast with them, among other activities that trail this period.

Also for the ‘sister Mary’s’ and ‘Brother James’ and John’s (born –again) students, this period is usually good to hold vigils, as according to them, the devil uses this time to manipulate its victims.  “This is the right time to battle principalities and powers and every wickedness in the high and low places” posits Onyewuchi Ibeh, a 300 level student, of IMSU.  To be continued next week…
