The Imo state House of Assembly yesterday passed a motion compelling the state Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Chief Judge of the state, Imo state Judicial Service Commission and the National Judicial Council to appoint twelve new judges in the state.

The motion which was sponsored by Honourable Eudora Igwe representing Ideato North in the State House of Assembly and fourteen others, disclosed that the Imo state High Courts as presently constituted have only 18 Judges out of the required 30.

They argued that the situation where there are insufficient and inadequate number of Judges in the High Courts ultimately lead to unnecessary delay in the dispensation of Court cases and denial of justice.

According to the argument, the Courts which are in dare need of Judges include that at Urualla, Ahiazu Mbaise, Aboh Mbaise, Ikeduru, and Ehime Mbano among others where Judges from other division now combine them when convenient to them.

Considering the motion, the House unanimously resolved, “Be it resolved by the Honourable House that a letter signed by the Honouarble Speaker be written to the State Governor, Chief Judge of Imo state, Imo state Judicial Service Commission and National Judicial Council urging them as a matter of urgent necessity to appoint 12 new Judges to fill the existing vacuum and save the state from unnecessary delay of cases in our High Courts”.
