IMHA wades into salaries and allowances of LGA political office holders

There are strong indications that the Imo state House of Assembly has waded into the confusion over the payment of salaries and allowances of elected Local Government Chairmen, Councillors and Development Area Co-ordinators and their members.

According to Imo Trumpeta checks, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Honourable Benjamin Uwajumogu last week during a meeting with Local Government Directors of Accounts and Generals Services (DAGS) and Treasurers (TR) directed them to forward to the House without delay vouchers of Local Government political office holders.

The report has it that the computation is to enable the House of Assembly ascertain the level of government indebtedness to the embattled political office holders.

It is further gathered that what is actually to be ascertained is their salaries from May 2011, their furniture and severance allowances and any other allowance due to them with the aim of paying all.

When contacted to verify the authenticity of the information, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt Honourable Uwajumogu said, “Yes confirmed, the house will henceforth manage the impasse with the view to resolving it”.
