POLY NEKEDE DEPARTS FOR NIPOGA, WITH 42 ATHLETES AND 7 OFFICIALS.

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, in Owerri on Tuesday departed the shores of Imo State to Federal Polytechnic Ede in Osun state, venue of this year’s Nigerian Polytechnic games which will be commence from the 14th of April 2012.

Speaking with Imo trumpeta before their departure, the Head Coach of the institution Mr. J.O Duru explained that though the school did not qualify for the football event, it however made it to 6 sporting events and he is very confident of winning medals in those events. The games are Taekwondo, Badminton, Volleyball, Athletics, Judo, and Handball.

Duru also informed Imo Trumpeta that the contingents to Ede is made up of 42 Athletes for the 6 events that the school qualified for and 7 officials including the Chief Coach himself.

According to the history of the games, Federal Polytechnic Nekede will be competing for the medals with the likes of YABATEC, Kaduna Poly, Oko Poly, Abia Poly, and Federal Polytechnic Bida as their main rivals.

When asked if the school doesn’t feel bad for not making it to the football event, Duru expressed his displeasure but pointed out that some of their distracters in the officiating team made everything possible to stop Poly Nekede from qualifying for the football event. He however said that their school has taken it in good faith and hopes to make it in the next edition.
