The internal crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress in Imo State has assumed a disturbing dimension as it chieftain and the convener, Imo APC Restoration Coalition and former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr. Theodore Ekechi , last Thursday allegedly escaped assassination.

Speaking to journalists at his Umugboma estate residence, Owerri, Imo State on Saturday shortly after the failed plot, Dr .Ekechi said the invaders broke into his house in the early hours of Thursday, and found their way into his bedroom with the hope to assassinate him.

“When they came and discovered that l was not in the house, they made away with two flat screen Television sets ,4 gold wrist watches ,20 brand-new laptops and other valuables to create an impression that it was just mere theft and my worries is that there is much concentration on documents. A bag containing all archives of my documents were also taken away”.

“I strongly don’t want to believe that this attack is coming from my political enemies who thought l have stepped on their toes in the state”, he explained.

The former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Imo said that he has made a formal report and had contacted the Police Commissioner and authorities to provide security protection in and around his house to avert further attempt on him and family.

He appealed to security agencies in the state to investigate the attempt on his life with a view to arresting and prosecuting the perpetrators.

“I and my family have been living in a deep fear ever since this incident ,and my offence is that l have become a strong voice against the governor’s intention to impose his son in-law as a successor in the state ,which some members of the party considered was against their orders. I have lived in this house for the past five years and l have never recorded such incident, not even a case of armed robbery attack”.
Meanwhile, all effort made to reach the Imo police public Relation Officer (PPRO) Mr. Andrew Enwerem proved abortive as his number was not available”.

Trumpeta has keenly observed that since the aftermath of the congresses, some high ranking members of the party especially members within the Rescue Mission camp have not known peace, even as they have instituted legal action against the congress committee of the party alleging that there was no Congress in Imo.
