How Rain From Leaking Dan Anyiam Stadium Roof Marred Children Day Event

The 2018 children’s day celebration at Dan Anyiam Stadium on Monday was disrupted by heavy downpour as the leaking roof at the Very Important Personalities (VIP) spot forced the State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and top government official to leave the arena before 2 pm.

Our reporter observed that the VIP spot have been damaged by rain and wind as the place was not conducive enough for the government officials to stay during rainfall.

Trumpeta gathered that immediately the rain began the whole place was messed up as the rain drop coming from the leaking roof socked most of the Perm .Sec and other top government functionaries including the Traditional Rulers who were sitting close to the Governor.

The heavy down pour which started immediately after the match past, wrecked a heavy havoc and disrupted the disco competition among the various secondary schools that participated in children’s day event. The governor who was disturbed by the rain could not exercise patient any longer as he was forced to announced the result of the match past and hurriedly left the venue without saying anything on the disco competition.

Those who were soaked by the down pour raised alarm and vowed not to come to the stadium again for any event until the rainy season is over.

All the school children who participated in the dancing competition were surprised to see the governor who ordered them to dance leave the place unceremoniously.

Immediately the governor and his wife departed, other government officials ran away because of the rain away this led to the abandonment of Dancing competition and other activities at the children’s day.

Those soaked by the rain were, principals of schools, head teachers, royal fathers and security personnels who came to grace the occasion with over 100 schools that came to the place regretted being part of the show as they advised the government to do something tangible as a matter of urgency to remedy Dan Anyiam Stadium which is now in a sorrowful situation.

When contacted the manager of the stadium Mr Chimezie said he has written severally to the state government to do something concerning the collapsed rood but it is only today that the government has promised to help out.

Trumpeta further gathered that the activities of the stadium have been paralyzed because of the present situation of the place coupled with government negligence. Information revealed that heavy wind recently removed some of the roof at the stadium. Even the collapsed Grasshoppers International Stadium has been abandoned for more than 3 years now. Some of the visitors who spoke to our reporter were not happy over the present situation. The concerned citizens of Imo State and lovers of spots are now crying to the state governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha to intervene and rehabilitate the stadium so that the place will be lively again
