The misfortune bedeviling the political structure of the governor of Imo State, called Rescue Mission is seriously taking its toll on the membership as some allies have called it quits again.
Trumpeta can authoritatively reveal that one of the social crusaders and known voices in the political terrain of the State, Barr Ifeanyi Olumba and former Chairman of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, Hon Amaechi Nwoha have left the Okorocha political family for APGA.
Olumba who served in the past as Transition Committee Chairman of Orlu LGA and IBC Management head under Okorocha was spotted at an APGA event in Orlu signaling his dumping of the Rescue Mission where he also functioned as GLO/SDC Cordinator for his area.
The lawyer cum politician, it would be recalled was one of the vital persons who worked for emergence of Okorocha as Governor in 2011. When contacted, Olumba confirmed he has changed camp for good.
On his part, Nwoha who could not be reached on phone for confirmation of his APGA move was also part of the party’s meeting at Orlu where a senatorial candidate, Prof Awuzie declared interest.
The former ISIEC boss, who had been Okorocha’s ally since 2011 did not make any statement before the public at the APGA event, he said to have joined the party and one of the chieftains in Nwangele LGA.
The two-time House member of Imo Assembly is also reported to have dragged Okorocha to court for removing him as ISIEC chairman ahead the proposed LGA election.
Speaking, the one time ASUU President and former Vice Chancellor of Imo State University Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie explained that since the inception of democracy 19 years ago, that Orlu zone has not been represented at the Senate by her first eleven.
According to Awuzie, “…..their narratives has not shown Orlu zone (Imo West) to have been represented by its best. It is from this group of people that academic qualification controversies dogged greater part of their tenure. It is from this our Orlu zone (Imo West) that we had the first set of people who decamped to the ruling party without reference or recourse to their constituents or to the party that sponsored them to such an exalted position”.
Insisting that, “this narrative has to change and it is for this that I present myself to contest and be elected as the Senator representing Orlu (Imo West) Senatorial zone come 2019”.
Taking a swipe at the APC, Professor Awuzie maintained, “The last APC congress witnessed the emergence of a group of pseudo-patriots/APC strongmen or what is called today APC Allied Forces, who united to checkmate the excesses and the grand plan by the Imo Emperor to impose his son-inlaw on Imo people as their Governor. While we commend this group for their action to “de-emperorize” the Emperor, Imolites should see their action for what it is- simply a class struggle for the soul of APC and for who continues from where Owelle stopped. It is totally born out of selfish interest to acquire power by a group of APC gladiators within the larger APC class that has held the masses and indeed the poor and down trodden Imolites in total bondage and abject poverty for the last seven (7) years”.
While urging Imo people not to take them serious, Professor Awuzie explained that the real reason for their sudden agitation now is that they perceive an eminent and palpable threat to their selfish political ambition/interests. Pointing out that they do not have the interest of the masses at heart.
