Ahead of the forthcoming 2019 general elections, a group under the aegis of Imo Renewal Youth Movement (IRYM) made up of respected youths of ,Imo state has called on Hon. Tony Nwulu, the sponsor of the very popular and youths friendly bill “not too young to run”, in the National Assembly , to contest for the Imo state governorship seat come 2019 .
The Imo youths made their position known last Saturday through Comr. Chukwu Kelechi Kingsley, Imo State Coordinator of IRYM during a Youth Summit held at All Saints Anglican Cathedral Egbu with Executives and Members of the group from the 27 LGA’s of Imo state and students support group from the higher institutions in Imo.
Comr. Chukwu who in his address disclosed that they had been on Hon .Nwulu’s tale for over one year, persuading him to run in the 2019 Imo Governorship, said they had adopted him as their sole candidate for the senate in 2019.
According to him, “Imo Renewal Youth Movement have taken out time to study Imo individuals and have found a character worthy of note in the person of Hon. Tony Nwulu.
We wish to appeal to the young and vibrant lawmaker not to turn Imo youths down on this clarion call of ours, as we pledge to mobilize all and every machineries within our disposal towards ensuring his electoral victory come 2019.
Therefore, in a bid to ensuring Imolites never repeated mistake of the past, we hereby beckon and demand Hon. Tony Chinedu Nwulu ,a trusted and tested member of the House of Representatives , also a Member of House Committee on Works, Telecommunications, Pension, Inter Parliamentary Affairs, Emergency Preparedness and Disasters Management, to join the 2019 Imo Guber race.”
He described the youthful lawmaker who is currently the Honourable Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Representing the People of Oshodi-Isolo II Federal Constituency of Lagos state as an ideologue Visionaries, a leader of leaders, philanthropist per Excellence
The State Coordinator pointed out that Hon. Tony Nwulu foray into politics began as the National Coordinator, PDP Youth advocacy initiative from 2013-2015, which saw him coordinating the entire activities of the organization, Pursuing the objectives of deepening the democratic space for young people and encouraging many to be involved in active politics across the country and was enriched by these experiences.
Hon Nwulu is currently the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Capital Market and institutions and chairman, Sub-Committee on Market Regulations and compliance
Speaking respectively, the State secretary, Awokinunu George, the three zonal coordinators of Orlu, Owerri, and Okigwe, as well as all the LGA Coordinators in their separate speeches, affirmed their demand and appealed to the young and vibrant lawmaker not to turn Imo youths down on this their clarion call. They pledged to mobilize all and every machineries within their disposal towards ensuring his victory.
“we would at this juncture, rise to Echo and re-echo to public notice, the position of Imo Youths, that based on character, youthfulness, pragmatism, traceable track records and taking cognizance of the zoning arrangement in Imo, we demand the man that has given youths hope, the not too young to run man, Hon. Tony Chinedu Nwulu to come and occupy Imo Douglas House come 2019 as Executive Governor”, according to the resolution.
