The new wave of political developments in Imo State since the outcome of the weekend’s conduct of APC Congress has also caught up with the Members of the Imo State House of Assembly.
Latest reports from the legislative arm of the state government have it that some of the members who were part of the endorsement of Chief Uche Nwosu, the Chief of Staff to the Governor and the anointed successor governor Rochas Okorocha has in mind for 2019 governorship race have started retracing steps after giving their nod for the project.
Trumpeta Assembly correspondent reports that after the outcome of the Ward Congresses which has tried to demystify the capacity of Okorocha to grant them automatic second term and House of Reps tickets, the lawmakers are thinking otherwise about their positions on the Nwosu ambition as well as backing the governor in future ventures.
It would be recalled that after a mild drama about the endorsement of , 20 of the lawmakers of the APC extraction openly gave their support to the Nwosu bid.
But recent reports have it that some of the members including the leadership are surreptitiously withdrawing from Okorocha’s camp and the Nwosu project to seek alliance with Araraume and others not disposed to the Rescue Mission project.
It was gathered that a ranking lawmaker who had been associated with Okorocha’s camp was spotted in the house of a chieftain close to Araraume. Though his mission was not made public since it was a private arrangement, Trumpeta was informed that it has to do with the Congress.
Available information also revealed that while most of the lawmakers respond to Okorocha during the day, they turn to Araraume in the night for consultations. Some of the lawmakers were also reported to have opened up channels of discussion with opponents of governor in the battle for the control of APC structure indicating they have dumped the governor and his son in-law for the 2019 election.
One of the House members who was spotted at the home of the APC leaders close to Araraume confirmed that they are on their way out of Okorocha’s camp since it became obvious the governor lacks what it takes to deliver his promises on granting them a second term and Reps ticket in 2019.
The lawmaker who pleaded anonymity for fear of victimization when confronted said “well, you can see I came to consult my leader here, because it has become necessary in view of recent development in the polity. The panic governor created in us has made everyone to find his level. I can tell you with are not with him again.
“His Nwosu project is no longer attractive since he is rushing to party leaders outside our state to seek help. We want to join the winning team, that’s why I am here to consult our leader and I can tell you others who had been supporting Okorocha and Nwosu project are doing same now”.
