Pope Benedict Speaks On World Communication Day May 13

The Catholic Pontiff Pope Benedict has advised media practitioners all over the world on the need to hinge their reportage on the truth.

Disclosing this while on a courtesy visit to the Management of Trumpeta Newspapers, the Director, Media/Communications of the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri Rev. Fr. Dr George Nwachukwu explained that the pontifs injunction is sequel to the fact that fake news breeds violence instead of peace.

According to Rev Fr. Nwachukwu, this year’s world communication day will be held on Sunday May 13, 2018 at the Assumpta Cathedral with a pontifical high mass to be presided over by the Catholic Archbishop of the Diocese Archbishop Anthony Obinna by 9.00am.

Fr. Nwachukwu who solicited for the full participation of the Trumpeta Staff hinted that the ceremony which started in 1967 is an all inclusive Christian ceremony for media practitioners.

He used the opportunity to eulogies the staff and Management of Trumpeta Newspapers for their fearlessness and dedication in presenting the truth always in their news presentations and urged them not to relent.

Responding, the Managing Editor and Co-Publisher of Trumpeta, Hon. Chief. Gerry Ogu thanked the team for their encomium on the quality of the output of the Newspaper and gave assurance that the paper will rather improve instead of relenting in quality of its output.

He recalled with nostalgia how he and his co-publishers, Hon. Henry Ekpe and Sir. Kelechi Mejuobi who are all practicing and trained Journalists had participated in the world communications ceremonies. And gave assurances that they will improved in performance.

Other members of the delegation included, Chief. Chidi Nkwopara who is a member of this year’s world communication day celebration and Imo State Correspondent of the Vanguard Newspapers, Rev. Fr .Eustace Nwanekwu and Nze. Collins Amadi of the Newsbreak Newspaper.
