Sir

Street Numbering

I beg to observe that as a result of the massive development projects being undertaken by the Rescue Mission administration, government has diversified its internally generating revenue sources to include new heads and sub heads.

This is the only plausible reason for street numbering at a fee of N5,000 per landlord in both urban and rural communities.  Government’s financial plight is understandable but care must be exercised not to over tax the citizens.

In the first place, government should have known that the period of rainy season is not ideal but bad enough for the exercise.  This is because many of the streets are perennially flooded within the season.  Apart from their inaccessibility, (party) contractors with nothing to offer in road construction got the road contracts only to render the roads impassable and worse.

Many car owners can no longer use their cars on the stagnant flood water while pedestrians dread the roads but can’t help it and ford the long stretch of dirty flood waters daily in search of their daily bread.

Government is advised to suspend the collection of the N5,000 for the time being until the track roads became streets and passable.  The Rescue Mission administration being responsive to constructive criticism should please heed the appeal.
