The 2013 Annual Odenigbo lecture of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese would be delivered by Prof. Peter Ejiofor from Anambra state with theme, “Igbo Progress: The Stand of Igbo language”. The Odenigbo founder, Archbishop Anthony Obinna, announced this shortly after the successful delivery of 2012 Odenigbo lecture by Bishop Lucius Ugorji with the theme, “The Church: A unifying force between God and Man”.
Archbishop Obinna said that Odenigbo lecture promotes Igbo culture and sensitize Igbolites on the need to embrace peace and unite to preserve Igbo pride.
Earlier at the 2012 Odenigbo lecture, the lecturer, Bishop Ugorji said that sins of Adam and Eve, Cain and our fore fathers made God to turn away from us, but God been a merciful immortal, sent Jesus Christ to bridge that gap and restore us back to God. He affirmed that God’s church established by Jesus Christ is the only route of communication between God and man. He stated that the destruction of the Tower of Babel by God in the book of Genesis Chapter 11:1-9, brought division and different languages on earth for millions of centuries until Christ through the Pentecost Sunday, made the church a holy gathering that imbibes the culture and language of every nation in the world. Bishop Ugorji enjoined all to be evangelists for God in different fields of work and use Igbo language and culture to serve God and humanity. He finally admonished all to live in the word of God and be an integral part of the church and not followers.
The Imo SSG represented Gov. Okorocha with other representatives from the Igbo states. The event was also witnessed by Former Minister of interior, Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho. Cultural groups from other South – Eastern states were present at the event.
