Pope Benedict XVI commends Prof Onwuliri Presents her with Silver Papal Medal

His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI has commended the efforts of Professor (Mrs) Viola Adaku Onwuliri, Minister of State Foreign Affairs (1) for being highly instrumental to the opening of the Nigerian Embassy in the Vatican City and subsequent posting of a resident Ambassador. To further demonstrate His Holiness’s appreciation, the Honourable Minister was presented with a Silver Papal Medal by the Apostolic Nuncio, His Excellency Augustine Kasujja on behalf of the Holy See.

In a letter signed by Monsignor Peter B. Wells, a Vatican Assessor, His Holiness hopes that the opening of the Embassy will usher in a new chapter in the relations between the Holy See and Nigeria as well as help promote peace, development and human rights not only in Nigeria but amongst other nations of the world

Furthermore the good works of the Professor (Mrs.) Viola Adaku Onwuliri was also appreciated for sustaining the relationship between the Holy See and Nigeria. Of importance is the part she played in the visit of the President, Pontifical Council of Inter-religious Dialogue (PCID), His Eminence Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran to Nigeria, where His Eminence had a very successful meeting with the Vice-President of Nigeria and various Faith Based Organizations. His Holiness urged her to be steadfast and continue to promote peace, love and unity amongst people, saying in doing this she would reaffirm one of the doctrines of the Catholic faith in which peace and unity form major pillars

His Holiness assured the Honourable Minister and those involved in the successful opening of the Embassy of his continued prayers and invoked upon them and their families God’s abundant blessings
