WOMEN CHALLENGE CUP: AKUDO SECURES 3 POINTS FOR DELTA QUEENS.

The female version of the Nigerian Challenge Cup kicked off in various centers across the nation on Wednesday including Owerri.

In the first game played at the Dan Anyiam stadium about 1pm,ImoStateborn Akudo Iwugwu showed why she is still relevant to the Super Falcons after she powered home a beautiful goal in the second half of the game against Inne Queens.

Akudo who was last year decorated with a special award by the Aboh Mbaise LGA in conjunction with Silver Sports at Nguru sports center found the back of the net when she was released by a through ball from her team mate as the goal ensured all three points for her team Delta Queens in the four team qualifying games.

The Mbaise born petit player who had at some time played for the Falconets and the Super Falcons told Imo Trumpeta that it is not yet time to celebrate until after the games are concluded in the center. She however remained optimistic of her teams chances of making the next round of the competition.

In the second game of the day, Ibom Angels silenced highly rated Bayelsa Queens with a 1 – 0 shocking score line even with their Super Falcons number one Keeper Precious Dede and former Super Falcons gaffer, Imo State born Eucheria Uche.

Ibom Angels who before the game had their captain checked by the match officials as a result of her masculine structure took the lead early in the first half when Dede was caught ball watching after a ball was floated into the box.

Meanwhile the women challenge cup game continued on Thursday as the four teams are expected to play three games each for a place in the next round.

It is however a shame to note here that after the much published Imo State female team, the state is still not being represented by any team of any form in the on going women challenge cup even as Imo State born ladies were seen playing for all the four teams in the Owerri centre.
